The Arizona Wilderness Coalition is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and restoration of wilderness lands and wild rivers throughout the state. Our proactive conservation campaigns seek to build Arizona's wilderness legacy while providing Arizonans with premium opportunities to explore and enjoy our state's natural heritage. AWC also maintains a strong commitment to stewardship of our existing protected areas, organizing monthly volunteer events dedicated to restoring and monitoring wilderness areas across central and southern Arizona. Help us protect Arizona's wilderness and wild rivers!

Formed in 1979, AWC has helped facilitate the protection of more than 4.5 million acres of public lands, including the Superstition, Chiricahua, and Mazatzal wilderness areas, among many others. In 2009, we led efforts that protected Fossil Creek as a Wild & Scenic River. Last year, we helped protect more than 100,000 acres of the Sonoran Desert National Monument for their wilderness values, while also hosting more than 100 volunteers and 2500 volunteer hours dedicated to restoring our wilderness heritage. Help us protect Arizona's wilderness in 2012 and beyond! [ Hide ]

The Coalition for Sonoran Desert Protection promotes the conservation of the beautiful and diverse Sonoran Desert. We work daily to create a community where: ecosystem health is important; nature and healthy wild animal populations have value; where visitors, children and future generations can all drink clean water, breathe clean air, and find wild places to roam. We achieve this mission by primarily advocating for: 1) the protection and conservation of Pima County's most biologically rich areas, 2) directing development to appropriate land, and 3) requiring appropriate mitigation for impacts to habitat and wildlife species.

We focus on the long-term preservation of the Sonoran Desert through work with local governments, state and federal agencies, members of the private sector, our member groups, and concerned citizens to implement the vision of the Sonoran Desert Conservation Plan (a regional and nationally-recognized conservation plan developed by Pima County in the late 1990s). By negotiating toward collective agreement on environmental policies and regulations, advocating for robust open space purchases, and using relevant and proven scientific knowledge to support our goals, the Coalition has created a strong history of success for the local Sonoran Desert environment. Western Watersheds Project was established in 1993 to protect and restore western watersheds and wildlife through education, public policy initiatives, and litigation. The organization focuses primarily on mitigating the impacts of livestock grazing on public lands, which is the most pervasive land use in the arid west and also harms native species, including the wolf, sage-grouse, and desert tortoise. With a dozen staff working in eight states, WWP stays focused on its goal of completing its "Project" through successful attainment of its mission. By supporting WWP, donors support a dedicated and effective group of committed scientists, activists, and attorneys who are improving the land for the protection for wildlife and ecosystems.
